Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

Phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) of welds, with recorded cross-section images, by operators certified to ISO 9712 Level 2 and Level 3.

Phased array ultrasonic testing

A cross-section image of the weld

Phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) uses a probe with many small elements. By timing each element electronically, the beam is steered and focused at different angles, producing a cross-sectional image of the weld, known as a sectorial scan.

Why PAUT

What phased array adds

Better coverage

Several angles are covered in one pass, so the weld volume is inspected faster and more completely than with a single-angle probe.

Recorded results

Scans are stored, so indications can be reviewed, compared and audited after the inspection.

Standardised

Phased array testing of welds is covered by standards such as ISO 13588, with acceptance defined by the applicable code.
