Visual testing (VT)
The first and most widely used method: weld profile, size and surface imperfections such as cracks, undercut and porosity are checked by eye, with gauges and good lighting.
Surface and volumetric NDT: VT, PT, MT, UT, PAUT, TOFD, AUT and RT, with personnel certified to ISO 9712 Level 2 and Level 3.
Non-destructive testing
Non-destructive testing checks welds and materials for flaws without affecting their use. We cover surface and volumetric methods, with personnel certified to ISO 9712 Level 2 and Level 3, and we define and review NDT across the project.

Surface methods
The first and most widely used method: weld profile, size and surface imperfections such as cracks, undercut and porosity are checked by eye, with gauges and good lighting.
A coloured or fluorescent liquid penetrates open surface defects, and a developer draws it out to make cracks and pores visible. Suitable for non-magnetic materials too.
The part is magnetised and magnetic particles gather where a surface or near-surface defect disturbs the field. Used on ferromagnetic steels.
Volumetric methods
Ultrasonic and radiographic methods reveal flaws within the full thickness of the weld.
Manual ultrasonic testing with a handheld probe, flexible for any geometry.

Learn moreOperators certified to ISO 9712 Level 2 and Level 3, worldwide.
Learn moreLevel 2 personnel set up and perform the tests, interpret and evaluate the results against the acceptance criteria and write the reports. Level 3 personnel can also establish techniques and procedures and supervise the NDT activity, as defined in ISO 9712.
